Brandi wanted to join the gym to lose some weight, and I decided to join also then. Shortly after, I started training with Delaney. She is not just our trainer. She is our friend and cares. She holds you accountable for everything you do and wants you to be the best you can be. If not doing something right, she tells you and corrects you. What I like most about Delaney is that she doesn’t just talk the talk. She walks the walk and is an inspiration herself. She is the best trainer that you can have. My journey started in August of 2017 with Delaney when I came across her on a friend's Facebook page. When I started looking at her page, I decided to contact her and see if she could help me with the new fitness lifestyle that I was working towards. The reason for contacting her was not because I didn't believe I couldn't do it myself but because I had no experience of the gym or meal prepping. When I contacted her, she asked me questions that I had never thought to ask myself, like your goals, where you want to be, etc. I started at 201lbs, and almost two years later, I am down to 140-144lbs. But I will tell you I haven't just lost weight; I have gained muscle, self-confidence, can enjoy my kids, and so much more. "Is it hard with kids?" They ask.

Yes, I am not going to lie, but you have to make time just as you would any other thing in your life. Do I miss my kids' activities? NO, I sure don't. I may be coming to them in my gym clothes and tired, but I am there no matter what. There are no excuses for life unless you make them, and if you genuinely want a change in your lifestyle/fitness, you have to make it; no one else can do it but you. Yea, Delaney can give you the plan and workouts but are you going to follow them? I can tell you my first weeks I didn't, and I told her I didn't follow them. I had to make that change to follow it; she couldn't do it for me. If you want to see a difference, call her up, message her or even email her. My fitness journey started with Delaney about four years ago. I wanted to make a significant change in my life, as she was recommended to me by a friend. I was going out of my comfort zone to train for my first fitness show. Delaney would push me beyond what I thought were my limits!  I trained with Delaney 4 days a week for three months. I was introduced to different styles of training and opened my views on how to prepare. There was always a solution in what we both wanted to accomplish for my goals. Always a game plan when adjustments need to be made.

I started with Delaney in Jan 2017. I was 165lbs, very unhappy, and I was on depression and anxiety medicine. I was eating fast food and junk every day, sometimes twice a day. I came to her wanting to lose weight for a wedding and was only going to be with her for 3months. Where do I even begin? Delaney has very much been a huge part of my life these past five years! Delaney Smallwood not only knows how to train people, but she also practices what she preaches. I have had the pleasure of having her as a coach/trainer for almost nine weeks. She is tough but fair. She does what it takes to help you reach your goals. She doesn’t train everyone the same way. Delaney finds out what your goals are, what foods you like, what equipment you have to train with and develops a nutrition plan and workout schedule that fits you. I love that she takes the time to individualize your program. She makes sure you stay on target. She changes your workouts and diet throughout your training. I get texts from her every week, asking how I am doing. Every other week I check in with her about my progress. I send in pictures and measurements at this time. Throughout my daily workouts, I send her videos of me lifting. She responds quickly. She lets me know if I’m nailing it or if I need to make adjustments. So far, in almost nine weeks, I’m down 33 pounds, showing a lot of muscle tone, and I’m feeling great. I have a ways to go, and I know I will get there with Delaney as my trainer. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Delaney for 2 years now. I started off as a lifestyle client who just wanted to lose some weight, and now I am going through my first prep for a body building show with her. She has been an incredible coach and a very integral part of my success. I have learned a ton, been pushed way out of my comfort zone, and my results speak for themselves. I’ve worked with Delaney for over a year to compete in the figure class of woman’s bodybuilding. If you’re looking for a coach/trainer who always goes above and beyond, Delaney is your woman. Dee is far more than a trainer- she is a mentor, an inspiration, and an amazing source of support throughout your fitness journey. 

 So many coaches out there have cookie-cutter programs and diets that they send to hundreds of clients. The issue with this is what works for one client will not necessarily work for the next. Dee takes the time to know how your body works- what foods it responds well to, what supplements you should be on, how much sleep and cardio you need, and much more. Her attentiveness to detail will allow you to learn your body better than you ever have before. 

 

Along the way, Dee will educate you about everything you are embarking on- supplement-wise, food-wise, workout-wise, and anything in between. You can come from any fitness-experience level. Delaney will take the time to teach you all you need to learn, but you must be open to changing your ways and adopting new habits. She is transparent, honest, and will be real about changes you should be made to obtain your goals. We took over ten months together before starting prep to do my first ever structured “bulk.” I was pushed out of my comfort zone both mentally and physically each day. Along the way, I learned ample amounts of information regarding nutrition, supplementation, training, proper form, proper technique, and more. 

   

You will be set up for success as a client of Delaney’s. Her app contains all of your workouts, cardio, a place to track nutrition, a place to upload progress photos, access to training videos, and technique descriptions. You have exactly what your regimen looks like at your fingertips, making it very simple to see what you expect. Dee is not the type of trainer you should go to if you are going to half-ass anything. You need to be willing to put in the work and better yourself. You will be supported the entirety of the way, but you should be prepared to step out of your comfort zone. This should sound scary… but I promise you, if you trust the coach, she will get you to where you dream of being. 

   

The defining moment when I knew I had found an outstanding coach was a few months into my bulk to get a little more personal into my journey with Delaney. I wanted to quit. I told Delaney my mental health couldn’t deal with the extra pressure, I couldn’t afford the supplements, and I was beyond fatigued and lost what to do. Within hours of sending that text, Dee had me on FaceTime for over an hour to chat. To listen. She allowed me to cry and vent and then worked with me to talk through the tough time. We made a plan to adapt our training for a bit to accommodate all else I had going on, but she never allowed me to quit. She never told me I couldn’t quit, but she encouraged and pushed me to adjust my mindset. She was my biggest hype woman and helped me brainstorm real solutions to the roadblock I was having. I never gave up because of the support she showed me, and I will never look back. She has allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder, and I cannot wait to see what else we can bring to the table working together.
